DOCUMENTS TO BE PRODUCED WHEN APPLYING FOR

A ( SCHENGEN ) VISA FOR A FAMILY VISIT

 

 

1)     A valid passport:  To be obtained from the local Public Security Bureau. The passport should remain valid at least 3 months after return. Please submit two photocopies of your complete passport (all the filled pages).

 

2)     Two photocopies of the applicant’s identity card.

 

3)     One visa application form signed and dated by the applicant. The form is to be completed in Dutch, French or English. A 2-inch photograph should be affixed.

-         Fill in the name of the person you intend to visit in Belgium. (Column 34)

-         Fill in the names, birth-place, birth-date of your children (if any) even if they do not accompany you (Column 42)

 

4)     A letter of guarantee (in the prescribed form “annex 3 bis”) by your guarantor permanently residing in Belgium or of Belgian nationality (in case he/she is NOT residing in Belgium). This document can be obtained from the guarantor’s municipality (or a Belgian mission abroad) and has to be certified. A letter of guarantee of the Embassy of China in Belgium is NOT valid. Please submit two photocopies of the letter of guarantee.

 

5)     Official proof of sufficient solvency of the guarantor (salary sheet / tax paper - a letter from the bank or deposit account statement will not do). *1

 

6)     A certificate of registration issued to the guarantor by the municipality in Belgium and a photocopy of the guarantor’s identity card or unlimited residence permit. (a person with a limited residence permit cannot legally act as a guarantor. )

 

7)     Proof of your own means of subsistence (if applicable).

 

8)     A notarized certificate of kinship with the family member to be visited. * + *2

 

9) - A notarized certificate from your work unit stating that your work unit agrees that you take holidays to visit your family in Belgium. This certificate should mention your name and position, and duration of your holiday. *

OR

-A notarized certificate from your school/college stating that your school/ college agrees that you take holidays to visit your family in Belgium. This certificate should mention your name and duration of your holiday (visits outside normal holiday-periods are not acceptable). *

OR

-A notarized certificate that you are retired. *

 

10) If the person you intend to visit in Belgium is not your guarantor, a certificate of registration issued to this family member by the municipality in Belgium and a photocopy of his (her) identity card or unlimited residence permit.

 

11) Two envelopes with family name, first name and address in Chinese and your telephone number.

 

12) Additional documents if required by the Consulate General.

 

13) Applicants may be subjected to an interview if the Consulate General deems this necessary.

 

 

Note:   All documents (except those under 1, 2, 4) have to be produced in one original and one photocopy.

You should submit all the required documents listed above in person Monday through Thursday from 9:30 till 12:00 AM.

Visas can be picked up Monday through Friday from 14:00 till 16:30 PM.   

Only complete files will be accepted.   

Your dossier will be forwarded to the relevant authorities for approval.

You will be informed in due time of the decision taken by these authorities.

 

 

*  These documents have to be authenticated by the Shanghai Municipality Foreign Affairs Bureau or the relevant Foreign Affairs Bureau before being authenticated by the Consulate General of Belgium.

 

*1  The guarantor should bring proof to have a regular monthly income of at least 800€ + 150€  for each dependent family member + 150€ for the visa applicant.

 

*2 Only visits to family members (relatives by blood or marriage) up to the 2nd degree (children, grandchildren, brothers/sisters) are acceptable. (no aunts/uncles, nephews/nieces, cousins)
