DOCUMENTS TO BE PRODUCED
WHEN APPLYING FOR A LONG-SOJOURN VISA (A.S.P.)
FOR STUDYING IN BELGIUM
The Consulate General will –
upon simple request – provide you with all useful information with regard to
studying in Belgium.
1) A valid passport:
To be obtained from the local Public Security Bureau. Please submit two
photocopies of your complete passport (all the filled pages).
2) Four application
forms signed and dated by the applicant. On each form a 2-inch photograph
should be affixed.
3) Two photocopies of the applicant’s identity
card.
4) A medical
certificate (in the prescribed form from the Consulate General) to be signed
and stamped by the designated hospital. The medical certificate has to be

5) A notarized
certificate of good conduct together with a translation (in case the applicant
is 21 years of age or older). This document has to be certified by the Shanghai
Municipal Foreign Affairs Bureau or the relevant provincial Foreign Affairs
Bureau. It is valid six months only from the date of issue. In case you resided
in a foreign country during the latest 5 years, you should moreover submit a
certificate issued by the relevant authorities of that foreign country.*
6) A certificate of
enrolment from a Belgian university or institution of higher education,
organized, recognized or subsidized by the Belgian public authorities. This
certificate is mandatory even in case you intend to take a language course
prior to starting your studies. For the latter course, a certificate of
enrolment is also to be submitted.
7) A notarized
certificate of your diploma / degree, or proof of
study at a Chinese university or institution of higher education in the
notarized form. *
8) Only in case of
enrolment by an institute of higher education depending on the Flemish
Community. You
should prove that you have passed the university entrance exam of China and are
entitled to study in a Chinese university or institution of higher education
(for example, certificate of enrolment from a Chinese university, university diploma, or proof of study at
university). The document should be submitted in the
notarized form.*
9) Only in case of
enrolment by a French-speaking institute of higher education for a full 4-year cycle. Proof
of the timely - between 15.11 and 15.07 of the academic year preceding the year
for which you enrol - deposit of a request of equivalence of your Chinese high
school diploma.
10) A/ Proper proof of the scholarship you have been or will be granted.
OR
B/ By a guarantor residing in China or in a foreign country
1) A letter of guarantee (in the prescribed form – annex 32) by your guarantor. If the guarantor is residing in China, he is required to accompany the applicant to submit the application file and fill in the letter of guarantee in person at the Consulate General. If the guarantor is residing in a foreign country, this document can be obtained from the diplomatic or consular mission of Belgium in this country and has to be certified.

A photocopy of the guarantor’s
identity card.
3)
A
statement from the Fortis Bank in Belgium, proving that the student has opened
in the bank an account under his name and has deposited minimum €5845 in his
account. In case of study in Belgium less than 1 year, the deposit should be at
least €487/month X duration of study.

C/ By a guarantor residing in Belgium
1) A letter of guarantee (in the prescribed form – annex 32) by your
guarantor. This document can be obtained from the guarantor’s municipality in
Belgium and has to be certified.
2) A certificate of registration issued to the guarantor by the
municipality in Belgium; a photocopy of the guarantor’s identity card /
passport.
3) Proof of the
solvency of the guarantor (bank account
statement / salary sheet / tax paper). Proven monthly income should be at least
750€ + 482€ for the student + 150€ for each dependant family member.
11) (If possible)
Certificates of foreign language studies. The certificates should be submitted
in the notarized form. *
12) (Important) A comprehensive written statement outlining your study project in Belgium, your career perspectives after completion of your studies and a formal commitment to return to China upon completion or early termination of your studies.
13) Two envelopes with your family name, given name and address in Chinese and your telephone number.
Note: All documents
(except those under 1, 2, 3) have to be produced in one original and one photocopy. You are requested to submit two photocopies of the letter of guarantee (item 10).
You should submit all the required documents listed above in person Monday through Thursday from
9:30 till 12:00 AM.
Visas can be picked up Monday through Friday from 14:00 till 16:30 PM.
Only complete files will be accepted.
All applicants will be tested on their knowledge of English or French.
Your dossier will be forwarded to the relevant authorities for
approval.
You will be informed in due time of the decision taken by these
authorities.
*: All (Chinese) notarized certificates shall be authenticated by the
Shanghai Municipal People’s Foreign Affairs Bureau or the relevant provincial
Foreign Affairs Bureau before being authenticated by the Consulate General of
Belgium.
All foreign (non-Belgian) documents shall be
authenticated by the Belgian diplomatic or consular mission in the guarantor’s
country of residence.
